some thoughts on the debate ...

well, i think that if you wanted kerry to win the debate tonight, then you probably got what you wanted. but if you wanted him to make a convincing argument for him to be the next president, then i am not sure that he really lived up to expectations.

really, i think that the country is just stupid. and when they look at the two up there on the stage, you get the feeling that kerry is really smart and well prepared, and bush is really stupid. and having said that, i think it's kind of clear that the american people have a lot more in common with bush.

i saw him making arguments that i just know most of my friends would make. stupid petty arguments that focuse on details and not the overall picture.

but kerry did do what i thought he needed to do before the election began. he held his own. he was calm, and he let the true dubya come out. bush looked a lot like gore did in 2000. he was childish and impatient. he stuttered and was at a loss for words more often than not.

but it should be recognized that kerry did not win the debate. people who were going to vote for bush before, are still going to vote for him. kerry still did not put any distance between him and bush in regards to their positions, yet you could tell that's what he was trying to do from the very beginning.

as far as i am concerned, i am more convinced now than i ever have been that kerry will not get my vote. kerry proved to me that he is still a far cry from being antiwar, which is a prerequisite for my vote. he even ended the night with a hollow threat aimed toward anyone that would harm an american. and i still have not seen a candidate comment on our own proliferation of nuclear weapons to our allies (i.e. israel). yet both of the candidates insisted that the end of nuclear proliferation was a key concern.

i just feel like they are both idiots. kerry may be the lesser of two evils, but i am no longer going to use that for a reason to support someone or thing. call me stupid, or whatever you like, but i am going to try and take some sort of moral high ground.

but i did take a little bit of joy from watching bush look like the bafoon that we all know he is.
